Nathan Powell is stewing in a space elevator bar, out of his depth and wishing his water was something – anything – stronger. It’s launch-day for the Lift. Politicians, celebrities, and the hyper-rich are on board for the experience of a lifetime (and to keep an eye on their investment). Nathan was hired by New World Corporation as head of security for Terminus, the Lift’s enormous orbital station. He has a spotty history with the company, but also a well-placed friend who got him the job. One catch: all he needs to do is extract her nephew, Paul, from a group of radicalized zero-g techs.
Now that the Lift is open, the cost to send drones and cheap labor to space is a fraction of what it was, making Paul and his crew little more than superfluous overhead. With bones too brittle for Earth, they are desperate, intelligent, and determined not to fade. Nathan wants a shot at a life away from corporate espionage, the techs want to maintain their livelihoods, and Paul just wants a family. Whether the Lift stands or falls, the solar system will never be the same.

Lift is the story of people in a world changing more rapidly than they can adapt. It echoes current fears about rapid technological growth, corporate power creep, and the challenge of staying relevant.

Where is LIFT Now?
